The problem is well described, the post shows research effort, it seems good except the last sentence. The answer to "maybe there's something else" is "yes, maybe there is", not helpful. A better question would be "is there something else?"; still not the best, probably, because in general we cannot know everything that runs on your machine. A way better question is "how can I find it?" or "how can I diagnose the problem further?" or "how can I make the daemon not lose packets?". If any of these is your real question then ask it explicitly instead of speculating after two slick paragraphs.
